The Fry Brothers, Tim and Roy Fry grew up in Hillcrest situated between two country towns in Victoria, Smythesdale and Snake Valley. At the age of six their parents encouraged the boys to develop their natural harmonies and guitar skills. Their father, who played guitar, started teaching the boys. Tim played lapsteel and Roy played acoustic guitar.

fry-brothersSince their father was a founding member of the Ballarat Country Music Club, it gave them them a chance to create their own sound and playing style. The brothers performed throughout their childhood and teens as an acoustic duo an in a succession of country to rock bands until they parted for a time whilst Roy completed a formal education in classical guitar and composition. Tim joined a touring country band playing pedal steel and performed at different venues throughout Victoria up to Queensland.
